The notoriously politically ambivalent Taylor Swift has finally come out with a ZINGER! on Instagram: she’ll be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives in the state of Tennessee.
I have to say I love how this is worded (see the original Instagram post below). I’ve always respected Swifty for staying out of politics, but only because that was what I understood was what she wanted to do. Based on this post, it would seem that her now voicing her opinion is not one primarily influenced by any party, group or person, but is actually something she wants to do. I guess we’ll see if she starts to go all Katy Perry over it (that was a joke), but even if she does, all people have the right to voice opinions, in any public capacity, even when they’re wrong (especially when they’re wrong, as that’s what politics is (basically (ignoring Man’s capacity for gossip) (debate)))).
The real issue is our worship of celebrity, or, rather, our inability to separate a manipulative factor from an honest one (example: Taylor Swift writes her own songs, Katy Perry does not (that was not a joke)), but even that is a little off from the main point: anything anyone else thinks is only subject to what I think; I can never get completely out of my own head.
‘But she’s OUR girl!!’ ‘But she doesn’t understand how politics work!’ ‘But she DISAGREES WITH ME so now I can’t allow myself to admit to liking her music!!!!’ ‘HOW COULD I POSSIBLY LIKE HER MUSIC IF I DISAGREE WITH HER POLITICS!?!?!? THEY’RE THE SAME EXACT THING!!!!’
Deification is necessitated ignorance (warranted or not), because it assumes ‘me’ as an Absolutely objective observer, because that must be a ‘possibility’ if I am ever to gain any kind of understanding from that idea (Absolute Objectivity (I am not an Absolute Objective Observer, as long as I am alive (and therefore subjectivized in-consciousness))).
In other news (unrelated): Swift’s Reputation tour has been getting rave reviews.
