Yup. It's true. Disney has released an album (Disney Super Guitar, released 4/27/18) with ten of their classic songs ranging from Beauty and the Beast to When You Wish Upon a Star to Colors of the Wind, performed and arranged by some of the world's top modern guitar players (Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, George Lynch), and it's actually pretty fantastic. It seems like Disney gave the artists full reign. All across the album are deviations into shred territory where on the original version was simplicity, and while it occasionally may remind one of Bill and Ted-like, 80's era shred, that's far from a bad thing if it's done right (depending on your mood–which, currently for me, is ALWAYS-IN-THE-MOOD).
The arrangement on When You Wish Upon a Star and Paul Gilbert's solo on Under the Sea are especially cool, but feel free to judge for yourself (duh).
All that's missing are tracks from Tosin Abasi, Brent Hinds, Dave Davidson, and Marty Friedman, and this thing would have been a record for all ages!
Here's to that cover art.
