Famous Graffiti artist known as ‘Banksy’ had a moment Friday when one of her/his most famous works, Girl with Balloon, was bought in auction for over $1 million. This although the artist is still (presumably) alive.

But it gets crazier…

Following the win, the piece was lowered through a shredder built into the bottom of the frame. The crowd stared in shock as the powers-that-be acted frantically to save their moneys, but to only part-avail: the piece got halfway through before the process was stopped.

In a totally unrelated video (posted below)–and apparently filmed by Banksy her/himself–we see a person building said shredder into the bottom line of the frame /> Scene-switch and a moment later, as the auction for the work ends, the crowd congratulates the winner of the piece, as the shredder goes OFF, and in the sitcom-esque silence sinks in amongst the crowd, we’re left to ponder the mysteries presented by this indelible performance piece full of FEAR (such fear) and doubt ($).

From a troll pov, this is fantastic, but, pragmatically,I almost feel bad for the person who won. Like: does she get her money back? And if she doesn’t, is she mad over that? Or is she stoked to have contributed to what will most likely be a fairly iconic moment in the history of art?

In other words…

Is she…

‘Girl with Balloon’?
